Things Fall Apart, the Grammy-nominated, Platinum-certified album that turned The Roots into a household name, turned 20 last month (this oral history by Questlove is a must-read). To celebrate, they’re performing the LP in its entirety at this year’s Roots Picnic.

Questlove said the performance will include “special guests.” Given that Mos Def is already on the lineup as part of Black Thought and J. Period’s Live Mixtape showcase, while the Soulquarians — the neo-soul collective featuring Mos, Common, Erykah Badu and more — are set to perform with Raphael Saadiq, a full Things Fall Apart reunion might just be on the cards.
The 2019 Roots Picnic also promises performances from the likes of 21 Savage, H.E.R., Lil Baby, Ari Lennox, Blueface, Davido and City Girls, in addition to DJ sets from Clark Kent, Stretch Armstrong, D-Nice, Rich Medina and Tony Touch. On the podcast front, there’ll be live tapings of The Joe Budden Show, Kid Fury and Crissle West’s The Read and Questlove’s own Questlove Supreme.
The 2019 Roots Picnic takes place at the new location of The Mann at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 1. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 15.
