Wu-Tang’s ’36 Chambers’ Meets Tribe’s ‘Midnight Marauders’ on DJ Filthy Rich’s New Blend Tape

On this day 25 years ago, two of the most important albums in hip-hop history hit shelves: A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders and Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). To celebrate, DJ Filthy Rich has released a new blend tape titled A Clan Called Wu: Enter the Marauders, which imagines the Wu’s ruckus-bringing rhymes from 36 Chambers over Midnight Marauder‘s jazzy, Jeep-ready beats.

“The intent was not to improve on the originals in any way….that would be impossible, as I consider them both to be perfect bodies of work. Rather, it was about orchestrating a fun concept, and putting a totally new spin on these well-worn classics,” Filthy Rich says. “The contrast of Wu’s gritty street raps over Ali Shaheed’s jazzy production works in a pleasantly unexpected way.”

Stream Enter the Marauders below — and be sure to give both albums plenty of burn on this special occasion. You really can’t go wrong with either.
