Swizz Beatz Finally Drops “Pistol On My Side” with Lil Wayne

Ah man, it looks like Swizz Beatz is really getting ready to release his long-awaited Poison album. And if the initial thoughts from the trusted ears of one of my colleagues holds true, we’re in for some greatness.

With a full-length album with Nas in the tuck (still can’t believe we got NASIR instead of it) and a promise to deliver that “straight raw and uncut,” Swizz says there’s nothing but DOPE on his next album. “I took all the hits off my record, meaning anything that felt too big that the rest of the record wouldn’t live,” he told Pitchforck about cutting  tracks with Kanye, Bono (U2) and Bruno Mars. “It’s just not that record. It might be on my next record, but this particular record I wanted to occupy the ground floor, which I came from, polish that, and then let people come with me to the middle of the building or the penthouse or the roof, and then just start everything over again.”

Boasting a star-studded guest list of Kendrick Lamar, Styles P and Jadakiss (on the same song!), Nas, Pusha T, Young Thug, 2 Chainz and more, the man who gets to sleep beside Alicia Keys every night is officially kicking things off with the release of “Pistol On My Side” with Lil Wayne, a song he first teased while baiting Timbaland to a battle.

In other Poison news, one song that won’t be featured on the album that fans have been starving for is the collaboration between Jay-Z, Nas, DMX and Jadakiss, which Swizz played during his beat battle with Just Blaze. He’s got a good reason, though.

“I want people to respect this body of work. Then, when the timing is right, we’ll put (the other song) out too,” Swizz told VIBE. “I feel like if I give people that now—people might disagree, but this is how I feel about it—they’re going to take the cherry off the ice cream, and all the time you put into preparing everything else goes out the window. It’s going to come, just not right now.

“Or maybe I’ll change my mind. I’m funny like that.”

Executive produced by Swizz and J. Cole, the official artwork and tracklist for Poison can be seen below. This looks nuts.
