Last night, a vigil for Mac Miller was held at the Blue Slide Park section of Frick Park in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Fans gathered in their thousands to mourn the 26-year-old rapper, who tragically passed away from a suspected overdose last Friday (September 7). Music was played, weed was burned and candles were lit in memory of the beloved MC.

Mac’s close friends and family also attended the emotional vigil, with Mac’s grandmother, Marcia Weiss, giving an especially heartfelt speech. “He would be so excited. He’d wish he was here, and I wish he was here,” she said. “But he loves you all , he loves Pittsburgh and everything that you have done for him.”

Fans have started a petition to have the playground area of Frick Park renamed “Mac Miller Blue Slide Park,” which Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto is apparently open to. Meanwhile, Brandon McCaslin, whose Nightfall Records organized the vigil, announced that he’s working with nonprofits to raise awareness about addiction and mental health.
