Some Tiny Desk Concerts come in support of a new album, like with Mac Miller’s post-Swimming performance last week. And sometimes, there’s no new music to promote, and we all just gather round the Tiny Desk to witness a legend in action, like with this week’s performance from Erykah Badu.
Despite the shorter-than-usual setlist (she performed two songs instead of three), Ms. Fat Belly Bella and her jazz band delivered gorgeous renditions of “Rimshot,” the intro to her 1997 debut Baduizm, and “Green Eyes,” the sprawling, 10-minute outro to Mama’s Gun.
Whether it’s the NPR offices or the hearts of some of the greatest rappers of all time, no one commands the place and people around her quite like Erykah Badu.
