Awesome! Kevin Hart Surprises 18 HBCU Students w/ A Major Surprise

With so much public notoriety, celebrities often have massive platforms they can use to make great impacts on their communities. Whether it’s being a role model for young children or donating money to a worthy cause the results are often amazing. Now, Kevin Hart is the latest celebrity to do something truly amazing. According to Ebony magazine, the famed comedian/actor has been spreading his wealth around helping young African Americans reach the levels of success they desire. He’s turned quite a few heads with the scholarship funds he’s donated to 18 lucky HBCU students.

$600,000 in Scholarships:

It has been reported that Kevin Hart has donated $600,000 worth of scholarships to 18 students at black colleges across the United States. He’s reportedly joined forces with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) – a nationwide system of free, open-enrollment college-preparatory schools in impoverished communities – to give the funds to students at 11 different historically black colleges and universities, including Morehouse College, Spelman College, Fisk University, Dillard University and Xavier University, according to The Shade Room.

On August 7, Kevin Hart and KIPP Schools took to social media after the presentation of the scholarships. Needless to say, all of the students were completely surprised by the generous donation. The Husbands of Hollywood star surprised the students at a dinner where he presented the scholarship awards. During the presentation, Kevin Hart spoke about the kind gesture. “I am living proof that if you put your mind to something you can not only achieve it, but you can go above and beyond the expectations of what you thought that you could do. After you open one door, the crazy thing is you find out that there are seven more doors that you could open,” Hart said. “Education is that first door – breeze through this!

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime – breeze through it! When you get to that next door…breeze through that. Success is what you want it to be,” he added. “At the end of the day, we are what we want to be. Do not allow others to hold you back.”

The scholarships were reportedly awarded to students based on their academic and personal achievements. In a statement released on Tuesday, August 6, UNCF CEO and president Michael L. Lomax announced the partnership with Kevin Hart. “Research shows that HBCUs matter, and that HBCU students are having a positive college experience, but they also have an unmet financial need,” UNCF CEO and president Michael L. Lomax said. “Together, Kevin and KIPP have made an investment that will have a significant impact. We can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Education Is Power:

Kevin Hart went on to discuss the importance of education and why it is imperative that we pave the way for the future generations. “Education and knowledge are powerful. I just wanted to do my part in providing opportunities for our future leaders, especially from my Philly hometown, and show support for HBCUs. This is just the beginning: trust me when I tell you there are a lot more kids who want to go to college who don’t have the money to make it happen.”

Kudos to Kevin Hart for takin’ out time to give back to the community and the African-American professionals of our future generation.
