When Tori got pregnant with the couple’s first child, she knew there would be a 50 percent chance the baby would have achondroplasia, a type of short-limbed dwarfism, like his dad. Considering this was a distinct possibility, Tori and Zach had conversations prior to their son’s birth about their feelings on the topic. And, in one particularly awkward chat, Tori inadvertently offended Zach with what some might perceive to be an odd comment.
“It’s a big deal,” Tori said about the possibility of her child’s dwarfism in an episode of Little People, Big World. “It is scary. No parent wants to hear that their child is different, no matter what that is.” Zach, who doesn’t necessarily see himself as different, shot back, “But to me, that’s not different. He’s just like me!” Well said, Zach.
While we don’t think Tori meant to hurt Zach’s feelings in this convo, we see why her remark hit a sore spot. Hopefully, Tori now understands Zach’s perspective on the issue.
Oh, and if you’re wondering whether Zach and Tori’s baby was born with achondroplasia, the answer is yes. The couple found out the news at their 34-week ultrasound appointment (via People).
